ABOUT SHEILA

Sheila Leatherwood is a mixed media figurative artist from Houston, Texas. She works from her home studio as well as her studio in The Silos at Sawyer Yards.

Her passion is watching people who come from all walks of life and giving them a permanent place to ‘hang out’ by creating their stories and putting them on canvas. Her use of bold color and design allows the viewer to know her subject on a deeper lever. She weaves a bit of realism and humor in her pieces as well.

“The eyes have it” and “The eyes are the window of the soul” are words to live by for Sheila. The eyes are the first and the last thing she works on as she creates her expressive portrait collages. They tell the whole story.

Sheila is a mother of two grown children and four grandchildren. In 2018, she took a beginning drawing class at Glassell School of Art and has been a Glassell student ever since.
